Course Overview
The purpose of this course is to help students develop their speaking and listening skills in order to become more effective public communicators. While the course introduces students to communication as an interactive process and to small group discussion, the major emphasis is on developing effective public presentation skills.
Grades are based on:
Someone I Want to Know More About Speech - 15%
Ted Talk Speech - 15%
Your Podcast - 20%
Two Essays - 15%
Journal Work - 15%
Outlines Prepared for each Speech - 5%
Class Participation - 15%
Final grades and academic standing can be obtained from https://my.commnet.edu when the semester concludes.
Grades will be negatively affected if:
Speeches are not presented on their scheduled day - penalty is 1 full letter grade.
Two absences will be allowed without penalty. For each absence beyond this limit, 1/2 of a letter grade will be deducted from the student's final class participation grade, which counts for 15% of your final grade. The same goes for students arriving late, which in our case is any time after 8:00 am. Two late arrivals will be allowed without penalty. For each absence beyond that limit, 1/2 of a letter grade will be deducted from the student's final class participation grade.
