Learning outcomes

First Year Experience, IDS 101 - Students will be able to accomplish the following after a library instruction session with an MCC Librarian:

  • Locate specific items/locations in the MCC Library [Library skills]
  • Seek the assistance of a librarian either face to face, via telephone, via chat 24/7, or via e-mail [Library skills]
  • Find a book or DVD in the MCC Library using the MCC Library Catalog [Searching as strategic exploration]
  • Check-out a book at the MCC Library Circulation Desk [Library skills]
  • Evaluate information on the web for currency, objectivity, authority and reputation [Authority is constructed and contextual]
  • Locate articles from research databases through the MCC Library website [Searching as strategic exploration]
  • Find MLA citations from articles retrieved from research databases [Information has value]
