SOC 201
A detailed analysis of major social problems in American society. Problems including population, ecology, poverty, race and ethnic relations, urbanization, the role of the media, criminal activity, aging, health, and housing will be evaluated. Emphasis is on American society, but some international issues and situations will be examined. Community awareness and involvement will be stressed as students evaluate local issues as well.

Poster Assignment
DUE TO BE ON DISPLAY DURING ENTIRE CLASS PERIOD FOR GRADING DECEMBER 7
Each student group will complete a tri-fold poster board addressing on of the problems from out textbook discussing the approach/situation/remedy of that problem within the last 5 years. Instructions of greater detail will be on Blackboard and/or handed out in class. Your poster will provide an overview of the academic research you read about on your topic and the argument that you made about your subject. Each poster must use text and visuals (graphs, bars, charts, images) to convey information effectively and a complete list of references (cited in the format of your choosing). Review the grading rubric at the end of the syllabus.
