Picture books are unique in the way they combine art and literature. Art in picture books can contain photographs or drawings depending on the artist's and writer's preferences. Sometimes the author is also the illustrator and other times the author and illustrator are two separate people. Picture books are geared toward children, but many adults find them visually pleasing and study them. If you are interested in studying picture books many colleges offer a Children's Literature class, including MCC.
The collection consists over of 3,000 digitized children's books. While most were originally published before 1924, some titles are more recent (1990s and 2000s).
