English 110 - Introduction to Literature

English 110

Course Overview

This course is an introduction to the thematic and formal elements of literatures of diverse cultures, with an emphasis on fiction, poetry, drama, and the essay, with the aim of developing interpretive reading and writing skills.

Grades

Grades are based on:

Four Essays - 40%

Journal Work - 45%

Class Participation - 15%

Grades will be negatively affected if:

Two absences will be allowed without penalty. For each absence beyond this limit, 1/2 of a letter grade will be deducted from the student's final class participation grade, which counts for 15% of your final grade. The same goes for students arriving late. Two late arrivals will be allowed without penalty. For each absence beyond that limit, 1/2 of a letter grade will be deducted from the student's final class participation grade.
